Jungle King could control animals with his mind. He applied to join the Legion, but was rejected. Angry about his rejection, he renamed himself Monster Master and used his powers to gather some of the most dangerous creatures in the universe. He formed 'The Legion of Super-Monsters' for the purpose of terrorizing people and getting revenge against the Legion. His first attempt at revenge, toppling Sky City, failed when the Legion arrived and stopped the city from being toppled over, however Monster Master and his Super-Beasts managed to escape.
Tracking Monster Master to the planet Inshar, the Legion battled the Super-Beasts and defeated them. Ironically, Monster Master met his own demise when a 'gas creature' he had rejected from his Legion of Super-Monsters, returned to kill him by turning him to gas.
